Youth Impact Organisation (YIO) is a locally led, community-rooted development organization driven by the belief that lasting change is achieved by communities themselves. With more than 15 years of experience, partnerships with organizations including UN Women and UNFPA, active leadership in national civil society coalitions, and a social enterprise that generates a portion of our own income, we bring both credibility and long-term sustainability to our work.
Across Malawi, fewer than half of all children complete primary school, 42% of girls are married before the age of 18, and persistent droughts continue to undermine health and livelihoods. These interconnected barriers prevent communities from realizing their full potential, demanding integrated, locally led solutions that address root causes rather than isolated symptoms.
We enable communities to become the primary drivers of their own development by strengthening the local leadership, resilience, and systems needed to create lasting improvements in health, education, livelihoods, gender equality, and child wellbeing. Our goal is not simply to improve individual outcomes, but to ensure communities can lead and sustain this progress long after external support has ended.
We create lasting change by empowering communities to lead their own development, working closely with government and civil society partners to drive collective action, and strengthening our long-term sustainability through innovative social enterprises that support our mission and expand our impact.
